Torana ... hardest to conquer.

It was long time since we had the Konkan trip that was in end of January this year. These 6-8 months and the summer days were bit hectic so we skipped to plan any thing for trekking and spent evenings in the city. We were eagerly waiting for the monsoon to arrive. At last the one we were waiting for ,,,,arrived .... ya it was the month of July. We had already decided the the trekking spot for this monsoon ... it was the place most difficult to conquer and now toughest to trek.(this will be more evident as you read ahead.) One week before I informed everybody about the date of the journey and the probable plan. Initially some of our group members gave us blur but kind of heard information about trekking the Torana in the rainy season . I too had read some of the mishaps on the fort with the trekkers 2-3 months back. But we were so elite and eager to move ahead that we did not pay any more attention to these facts , though it was the fact.More about these facts you can read on other blogs if you want. It was Saturday(most suitable day for IT professional to wander around and get back to office on Monday.) 25 July . Every body was ready to feel the feet and shoulder of that huge green wall so called "Sahyadri" who is still stable on the west court of Maharashtra fostering it as mother. And we 10 People (me,Roshan,Sagar,Vidhula,Vikas,Suheta,Atul,Pravin,Prashant and Viabhav)were about to salute it... all the way. We decided to start our day in the Morning 7 a.m bot I could not be possible as some of the members took a bit more time(Vidhula,Suheta and Prashant), I mist mention the reason for the delay also, Vidhula and Suheta were late as they have been busy and took more time for lunch arrangement for all of us that we had planned to take on the fort and Prashant had to travel a long distance to reach to Atul's home. (No issues guise... it is part of life... we need to adjust !!!!) At last we made our bikes roar and the journey began. it was around 8.15 am .......... At the very first petrol pump near chandani chow we filled petrol and air for all the 5 bikes. We preffered the Banglore highway from Chandani Chowk to move to Satara road as we wanted to enjoy the bike ridding too. Really the road is splendor to feel while moving through the black hole near the Ambegao(Remember to scream in hole ..... J) .As it was already more than the 2o days the monsoon was in its full mood ,lavish greenary was making our day more pleasant along with the breez and the showers of rain. We had targeted to reach the village called "Vhele" (which is the start point of the trek and around 65 kms from Pune) at 9.30 am but as I mentioned earlier we were late by an hour we running out of schedule. On the bike rides too everbody was enjoying the waeather and moving ahead. I must mention one name here and he was Vikas who has all the way came from Mumbai to join us.(kyo ke Usay Baarish ka Intejaar tha... J). Everything was going fine and at a sudden I heard the ear pepping horns back to me .... so we stopped . The reason was Praveen was lagging us far away his bike got puncture in the way .....~~~~~~~~ :-( These are the most unpredicted things when we are on the bike journy please be equiped with the necessry instruments.(Praveen please make sure next time...J) We had already left higway long way back and one known place (Narsapur) where we could have repaired the puncure. So we were left with no choice but to put the bike some where in the nearby village and keep our journy going with tripple seats on two bikes then.Luckily some of the travellers on the same way told us that we can get the mechnic in the next village called Amabwane that too was 4-5 kms away from the our present location. So all of we decided to go to Amabwane . When we reached there , while the puncture get ready we had ok- duke breakfast there(Misal paw and okies tea... village style dudh kam paani jyada....J). It was quite enough refreshing to move your tiredness away for a while. Now we were just 20 kms away from the Velhe. With in next 30 min we reached the village. it was 10.45 am. We thought that we are too late but there were some other groups too, who was behind us and along with us.(so no problem .... Praveen .. I think Puncture was reason to have the break fast...right?) So please look at the Happy faces of all of us while starting the trek ... and will show you same after the trek ...JJJ With the big sound of cheers we started the trek. As everybody was new to the Torana we felt like he(Torana) was smiling with his two arms rounded around us and as if he welcomed us from his depth of heart. Initial 100-300 meters were tilted ground covered with loafs of the green grass and it was really fun to start the trek with the such conditions. Everybody was so excited …. those faces I can still feel right now after two days also. With fun , gup shup, singing we were moving ahead....... Incidence I was sure to arrive, arrived as expected … Vikas was on the ground making 100 % use of his nose to collect as much oxygen as he can. Yes it is bound to happen when you are trekking first time . You will feel short of water and oxygen. But no worries breath loudly with your nose and if you are carrying any sort of sugar food with you , please have it. We had Glucon-d with us so Vikas was Ok again in 5 min of rest. So again the we are on the way ahead.(See the Vikas how refreshing he is in the photo!! below, the onw whois sitting on the ground!!!!!) After around 1 hour we left the plain grounds and reached some height in the journey and we were spell bound after what we saw there . We were on such a pick which was surrounded by the huge green faces of the mountains and tiny , medium, large water falls were adding grace on those faces . flow of wind was so mighty that we were unable to grip our feet on the ground. It was thrilling experience please feel it whenever you go on Torana. At this place we had some snacks and got refreshed again. Looking ahead was not of any use as everything was covered by the dense clouds.Meanwhile we found some people coming back from the top, these are those people who have started the treck early in the morning and were on the way back home.We had some words them about the trek conditions ahead. They advised us to be very cautious as some patches were really slippery. With that help we moved ahead. At this time we had passed more than 2 hours and it was clear that the trek is not going to be so easy hence forth. But discussed among us to move ahead or not ?and the final decision of the crew was to …………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………. Ye to move ahead what may come ahead !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really appreciate the zeal and enthu of everybody. Hats off to you guise.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now on every step we were evident that why Torana was hardest fort to conquer. But now hard patches are supported with the railings to move up . So we could move up comfortably. In all with the all the hard patches one that really scared us is memorable to everybody. I am damn sure about this(Guise do you remember that??!!!!!!!) But with all the support and the strong desire to move we could make it through. After climbing the rock patch we were quite on the safe zone and was in fronted with the big water fall . This was like, after miles of jorney on the rocks, suddenly you get the silk carpet to walk on ……. We spent around 30 minutes there in the water throwing all the fatigue. In the water there were other groups enjoying. From the water fall we spent more 3o minutes to walk and guess what was there in front of us …..? Yes, right it was the entrance of the fort. So at a sudden sound came “Jay Shivaji” and every body backed it up with “jay Bhavani”….. and such many more roars!!!!!!!!!! We are really proud of that great warrior who conquered this fort for “Hindavi Swarajya” just at the age of 17 years . After reaching on the fort you can see the small hut and after inquiry you can get the “kaanda Pohe ” and “kadak chai” here. That should make your mood after 3 hours of trek. On the fort there are many more spots you can visit but in the rainy season only the temple of Tornai is available for visit and stay if you want . When we were on the fort 2-3 groups were already occupying the place which did not matter us much as we did not wanted to stay there. With some time wandering here and there we had our lunch praising each other that how strong we are and bla blab bla…… but actually (pairo ki to waat lagi thi….. ) It was different part of the coin(guies what say???) But we are really thankful to Hirakanies for the testy lunch. We spent around an hour on the fort and prepared for the return journey. Return journey was also went okay- duke and we safely arrived in the village “Velhe” around 6 pm. Again with some Poha and tea in the restaurant we left for the Pune. BY 9.30 we were in the nest with feet dipped in the hot water……………!!!!!!

Sumit!!!!
